Amy Moss – maezen

Before we get into your work, can you just tell us a little bit about yourself?

I’m Amy, I’m 25 and I live in London, in the UK. I work as a freelance illustrator and also in book publishing.

We are curious about your past and your style. When did you get started with art, what are your preferred topics and how would you describe your style?

I’ve always loved looking at art in galleries, but only started properly drawing when I was 16. I did an art foundation after finishing school and that’s how I figured out I liked Illustration the most, I studied it for my degree in Edinburgh and it was there than I found my ‘style’. My course really encouraged observational drawing and I fell completely in love with it. Now, drawing whatever is around me is a huge part of my practice.

My favourite things to draw are usually people, my coffee and a book—mostly I like to try and catch the atmosphere of where I am. I’d describe my work as loose and colourful, focussed on the feeling.

To be part of our project, we asked each artist to address certain issues in their designs that we should all think about more often. Can you briefly explain what your designs are about and what message you want to convey with your designs for maezen.

My designs come under the theme of ‘Going Slow’. I think it’s really important to take time for yourself, find slow moments, when you’re not really doing anything and not thinking about anything, and enjoy them. All my designs remind me of moments when I’ve found that kind of feeling.

Last question, is there one thing which is important to you that you would like to share with our community?

Take some time for yourself today!! Go and sit in a café or a park or a pub and buy yourself a drink.
